Question of the Week #2

A few months ago I posted Question of the Week #1 and didn’t get many responses, but I have a question I want to ask so I am trying again.

What YA book that you have read has crossover appeal to the general adult population?  We see lists telling us which books written for adults teens will enjoy, but not vice versa.  So what are your picks?

I will post my thoughts next week.

  1. The Book Thief!!

  2. I’m picking Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian. Just read it and loved it.

  3. Here are more great crossover reads:
    GOING BOVINE
    AS I LIVE NOW
    OCTAVIAN NOTHING
    CATCHER IN THE RYE
    FAT KID RULES THE WORLD
    anything ELLEN HOPKINS

I hope that helps!! I just don’t “get” though the idea that books have to be categorized for some “adult” readers. A good book is a good book …. period. Don’t you agree? Anyway, it’s like dragging them to the YA section to show them that, hey, YA is REAL lit! 🙂

  4. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing by MT Anderson
First Part Last by Angela Johnson
    Locomotion by Jacqueline Woodson
    Harry Potter
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks

I second Vasilly’s nom of Sherman Alexie’s book

  5. Ten Cents a Dance by Christine Fletcher.
